Ravenna Text of the Tabula

More than half of the Cosmographia by an anonymous scholar of Ravenna, Italy is a list of place-names taken from a chart very similar to the Tabula Peutingeriana.

For two large areas, the items from that list have been plotted here onto subway-style abstracts of the matching areas in the Tabula. This procedure demonstrates that the Cosmographia (perhaps datable to about 800 CE) draws without a shadow of doubt on a Tabula-style chart, since the commonality could not be possibly be random.

At the same time it is notable that the pattern in which the anonymous compiler (or perhaps his predecessor and source) transcribed the names from the graphic was not a rule-based traverse. Instead it resembled a relatively informal sweep with a broom.
